The Remit

To celebrate the school's contribution to environmental awareness, all the children were invited to take part in a whole school art project. This was to culminate in a collection of  artwork for the seated areas of the school gardens.

Miss Hood was pleased to welcome back Maureen Crosbie, who you may remember oversaw the fabrication of our stain glass window.  (Stained glass window)

Where to Start

Using the projects the children have been working on, Mrs Crosbie  spent time with each class inspiring initial sketches which would be used in the final pieces.

Initial drawings

Once the ideas had been finalised, the process of enlarging from sketch to working size began.

The children from P.6/7 enthusiastically started on the task of drawing out the finished designs which would be transformed into ceramic mosaics.

Picking out the Tiles

Reflecting the school's team spirit children from the youngest and eldest classes pulled together to find just the right colours to work with.

Bit by Bit

Starting off by using the tiles to create the outlines , then filling them in, the pictures began to immerge from the white background.

The tiles were stuck with copious amounts of glue onto reinforcing gauze which had been placed over the drawings.

Finished Pieces

The children worked like Trojans the whole day, some enthusiastically giving up their lunchtime. By the time the school bell rang to signal the close of day,  the first three class designs were complete.
