A Celebration
of the life of

Loraine Mary Cant

4th January, 1952 - 30th August, 2005

Sadly we record the very sad passing of Loraine.  Although she had only worked in the school for 2 years, she had been a volunteer and a great support to the school for many, many years.

Loraine was very popular with staff and children and will be sadly missed by all.  It was due to Loraine that the school had marvellous success with our Musical Productions, especially our Christmas Concerts.  The demand for tickets was always huge.

It was her links with the community that took us to many churches and old folks groups, in-fact I don’t think there is a place we didn’t go to.  This was because Loraine was Musical Director of Arbroath Musical Society, Organist and Choir Mistress of St Thomas Church, Musical Director of St Thomas Youth Drama Club and Musical Director of her own Choir - the St Thomas Singers. She was a Friend to Arbroath Musical Society, worked with the Black and White Minstrels and supported any musical group that required her many talents.

Loraine sadly died of cancer on Tuesday 30th of August 2005 at Ninewells Hospital.  She was greatly supported by the staff of Ward 32 and the McMillan Nurses.  She had the most wonderful Funeral Mass on Monday the 5th of September in St Thomas Church, which was full to capacity.

The family had asked that instead of flowers those who wished could make donations for the services that support and fight against this terrible disease. To date, these donations have reached £1,400 and this total is still rising.

In conclusion, Loraine will be sadly missed by all Staff and Pupils here at St Thomas Primary School and we would like to take this opportunity to thank her for her work, friendship and support

Many organisations and Musical Societies will miss her many talents but I think her legacy is how much poorer they would have been had she never been involved with them.  I know the school would have been a poorer place without her involvement.
