Art Project - Felting
P2/3 - 2007

Class 2 and 3 took part in the latest Art/Craft project involving a visiting artist.
Here they are starting work with textile artist, Mrs Earl.
The task is to make your own felt and us it to create a seascape wall-hanging.
The project will last about six weeks.
Week 1

Teasing out the fleece with Mrs Earl.

All teased out.

Putting down the first layer.

Taking a photograph as we work.
This is the second layer going on. It has to be the opposite way from the first.

Now the third layer is being set down - remembering again to change direction.

Covering with net.

Now pouring on hot soapy water.

All hands needed now as we press down to let it soak through all three layers.

Now comes the hard job as we have to rub and rub to create the felt.

The final step for day one is to uncover and show the felt taking shape.

Week 2
More hard work to make our felt thinner
Keeping a record of the work in our diaries.

More rubbing and squeezing.

Rolling to get rid of the excess water.

Our felt is finally ready to use.
